Our story

It started at Okkampitiya

Since 1957

The family trade since 1957 · Royal Ceylon Gems International (Pvt) Ltd founded 2026

A Sri Lankan family house, in the trade the island invented.

Okkampitiya, Monaragala District: the fields where the house began

Founded at the pits of Okkampitiya by A. M. Karunarathna in 1957, working the fields alongside his friends. His son A. M. Ariyarathna carried the trade from Okkampitiya to Ratnapura. In 2026 his grandson founded Royal Ceylon Gems International, bringing the family's goods to the world: three generations, one trade.

Okkampitiya, in Monaragala District, Uva Province, is gem country: small licensed pits worked by hand, families who have read rough for generations, and a trade learned at the pit head rather than in a showroom. Today the house buys at Okkampitiya, Ratnapura and Elahera, cuts in its own Colombo lapidary, and exports under licence from the National Gem and Jewellery Authority.

Three things we hold to

Origin

Ceylon, named and evidenced, not "various origins". We can tell you which field a stone came from.

The cut

Our own lapidary, our own cutters. Colour held face up, pairs matched at the wheel, calibrated goods to tolerance.

Honest goods

Unheated stones flagged as unheated. Heated stones said to be heated. Certificates on request, always.
